Your own private mountain Aspen is one of the true great ski resorts in North America. Sometimes the pistes seem to be so quiet it feels like you are on your own private mountain. Maybe that’s part of the charm that lures celebrities and A-listers back year after year. However with 4 mountains to choose from, a choice of top notch hotels and an airport a stone’s throw from the resort, it’s not hard to imagine returning to Aspen.
On the Slopes 5* Miles of empty, varied slopes, makes it a joy to ski or board.
Lifts 5* Plenty of lifts & Gondolas in Aspen and Snowmass with no queues.
Town and Après 4* Unlike many US resorts where there country music at every turn, you can find a chill-out bar for some more up-market Après. It will never be quite like Europe, but we really like Après, Aspen style.
Après Ski: Sky Hotel
Restaurants: Little Nell or Sky Hotel for glamour; Jimmy’s or Little Annie’s for American bistro style dining and Mezzaluna for Italian.
On the Slopes 5* Aspen – with a new Gondola that goes all the way up the mountain, and lift queues are nowhere to be seen. Great for intermediates, with lots of blue slopes to suit all standards.
Buttermilk is the small, charming resort that is almost empty. Try the “blacks” to the left hand side for completely empty runs – they are really blues in disguise!
Snowmass – A 30 minute bus-ride seems like a hassle, until you arrive. The Gondola takes you most of the mountain, the high choice and variety of terrain will keep everyone happy.
Highlands – With a purpose built resort at the bottom, there’s a nice spot to relax at lunchtime or at the end of the day.
An efficient bus service from the centre of Aspen (Ruby Park – close to the gondola) connects surrounding areas to the centre and there are direct buses to the three other ski areas (Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands and Snowmass.)
Recommended for: All standards, Snowboarders, Off-piste, Luxury hotels, Romantic holiday, Après-ski, Shopping.
Shops – Art Galleries and Real Estate outnumber retail shops by at least 3 to one. Expect up-market designer boutiques including Prada and Louis Vuitton.
You can fly directly to Aspen from Denver Chicago, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles. The airport is only three miles from town. United Airlines flies from London to Aspen via Chicago.
